Dutch Bonsai by Hans Fonk

Bonsai is the Japanese art form that literally means “grown in a container”. It focuses on long-term cultivation and shaping of one or more small trees growing in containers.

The internationally-renowned Dutch photographer Hans Fonk was inspired by the forms and shapes of these artificially created living art works. Along the Dutch coastline, he has photographed trees that have been shaped by the wind, transforming them into Dutch Bonsai

The photos were printed on canvas and painted over with ancient Chinese pigments and Tempera.
